THEFT AND SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AT EQUINE PREMISES - PLEASE BE AWARE!

The last week has shown a number of thefts  or attempt theft / suspicious activity at stables in various parts of the County.    This has included West Parley, Weymouth and Sherborne areas.   Many of you will now be putting your horses out to pasture and increasing your rides and therefore equipment  at stables etc.   This may mean more tempting targets at stables or empty yards.

Dorset Police Rural Crime Team can offer a range of crime prevention advice for the horse community.   Please don't hesitate to contact us via our Force Website.   You could also consider encouraging other stables to join HORSEWATCH or even join our Horsewatch Patrols.   These patrols are carried out by your fellow horse riders with full back from the Force.  You could be another set of mounted eyes&ears in your area.  Please see our Force Website for HorseWatch Patrol details.

Some basic prevention advice includes:

* Is your stables/yard alarmed  with trigger beams?

* Is your yard well lit ?

* Consider gate alarms and hidden cameras which can alert you instantly if someone unauthorised is on your property.

* Make sure all your equine equipment is marked and photographed, in particular saddles.   We can provide advice on the best form of marking etc.

We hope you can safely enjoy this spring weather and ride safely.   Take care.
